Lüneburg in a day
09:30 a.m. - Breakfast at Schrangenplatz
Schröderstrasse and Schrangenplatz, part of Lüneburg’s thoroughfare, are lined with many small cafés where you can comfortably watch the town’s morning hustle and bustle while enjoying a delicious breakfast. Look to your right and left: narrow, winding alleys converge on the square. It is one of the Lüneburg residents’ favourite spots.
11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. - classical guided tour I price: 7,-€ per person
Leave Schrangenplatz and walk towards Lüneburg’s town hall (not more than five minutes). The town hall is one of the most popular sights in Lüneburg, which you can only visit on a guided tour. Such tours usually take place in the afternoon. The Lüneburg Tourist Information Office, where you can acquire a free map of Lüneburg, beautiful souvenirs and lots of information about the town, is located in the town hall. The town tours also start from here. We recommend the classic tour. Book a guided tour...
13:00 p.m. - Lunch
We suggest you have lunch at one of Lüneburg’s traditional brewery restaurants, such as the Mälzer Brau- und Tafelhaus.
15:00 p.m. - German Salt Museum
Lüneburg and salt share a very long common history: this ‘white gold’ helped Lüneburg gain considerable wealth and power. The Deutsches Salzmuseum (German Salt Museum) depicts the history of salt in a vivid and exciting manner.
17:00 p.m. - Water Tower
The water tower affords a wonderful view of the town. You can identify all the places you have visited throughout the day from up here. This monument houses an exhibition all about water as well as a series of temporary exhibitions.
18:30 p.m. - Dinner at the Stint Market
The Stintmarkt (Stint Market), Alter Kran (Old Crane) and Alter Hafen (Old Harbour) are the heart of Lüneburg. The unique ambience is ideal for a lovely dinner at one of the restaurants close to the Stintmarkt, such as the Lüner Mühle.
from 20:00 p.m. - Let the evening fade away
Be it live music, wine, dancing, cinema or theatre, there is something for everyone. You can spend a lovely evening in the medieval town centre. Settle in one of the intimate bars lining the Stintmarkt. Savour a glass of wine or a cocktail at Sa·Bacca on the market square. Watch a good film—possibly even in its original language—at the SCALA art house. Why not visit the town’s theatre? Enjoy the best live music at the Irish pubs in Lüneburg on Fridays and Saturdays, or dance the night away at Lüneburg’s discos and clubs.
